Personal Style If you’ve read through this site, you’ve read a lot about CBT. And that’s a very important part of what I do. But that’s not the whole story. Perhaps the best way to put it is that CBT is about the science of therapy – the knowledge base I draw from, the strategies I share, and the steps we’ll take to solve problems. But therapy is not just about problem solving. It’s also about a relationship – a professional partnership between the client and therapist. How does that frame what I do? It places you—and how you feel—at the centre of the therapy process. It means that I’ll be patient, understanding, supportive, and open-minded. It means I’ll focus on getting to know what’s important to you. It means I’ll identify your strengths—even when you can’t see them—and help you use them to live more fully. It also means I’ll give you the time, space, and support necessary to find the trust and courage to be open. When appropriate, I’ll bring humour into the mix. Yes, therapy can be light-hearted and fun too. And when I think you are capable of more, I’ll let you know, and challenge you to take the steps necessary to get you to where you want to be. However, we have since learned that most of our clients enjoy the convenience of online sessions, and demand for in-person services remains low. We therefore have not fully transitioned back to the office, and currently there are no plans to do so. A limited number of slots are available for in-person sessions with Dr. Riven. You may request one, but we usually reserve these spots for clients who have no other option. All other therapist’s on our team are only offering sessions virtually. Our COVID-19 Statement was last updated March 2023. Please inquire for further updates. Book an appointment with Dr. Levi Riven
